Please contact Jonathan Jordan by this Tuesday (6/11) to keep funding for greenways in the NC House budget

Senate bill 402 and House bill 817 would cut about $1.2 million in state funding for DOT projects that affect greenways and trails.  This will cause the state to lose out on $4.5 million dollars in federal DOT money.  Specifically for the High Country,  our county has secured funds of about $1 million dollars to help fund the South Fork Greenway (from Boone, under 421, through Brookshire Park up to Todd) and the Middle Fork Greenway (from Boone to Blowing Rock).  Of the $1 million dollars, about 20% is state money that allows us to be eligible for the 80% federal matching dollars.  If we lose the roughly $200K from the state, we also lose the rest from the federal government unless we are able to raise that privately.  The Senate has added back some provisions that may allow for this funding but the House budget is due to be voted on by Tuesday, June 11th.  Please contact Jonathan Jordan (919-733-7727, by Tuesday and ask him to keep greenway funding in the NC House budget.  Here are some local articles about the issue:
