Ski Leagues:

High Country Junior Race League

The High Country Junior Race Series, started in 1984 as a friendly competition between junior skiers from the three local ski mountains, brings together junior athletes, ages 4 to 18, to participate in a series of races held at each ski area, culminating in a rotating Championship race. At each race, medals are awarded to the top three finishers among the boys and girls in each age group. Cumulative points are awarded to each racer and carry over from each race to the Championships, where trophies are also awarded to racers with the most points for the season. There is also a team trophy awarded to the team from the ski area with the most points for the season. The High Country Junior Race League is open to young people of all ability levels. Generally, as long as you can ski down an intermediate ski slope, you are eligible to compete. You have to affiliate your young ski racer with one of these Junior Race Teams/Mountains to be eligible for the races throughout the season. Sugar Mountain Adult Race League (SMARL)

SMARL, a series of races held every Monday night beginning in January and ending in mid-February, has become a popular event with skiers and snowboarders across the High Country. The event fills up quickly every year, and this season was no different. The league is open to both skiers and snowboarders, and a team can consist of both. To determine league winners, points are awarded to the top four individuals from each team based on the completion time of a giant slalom course each week. SMARL is sponsored by Ski Country Sports and Sugar Mountain Resort. For more information, contact Sugar Mountain Resort or Ski Country Sports.
