Watauga County Parks and Recreation is currently accepting registration for Fall Programs. The deadlines are quickly approaching – many within the week. The following are recreational opportunities offered this fall:

Youth Soccer: Soccer for youth ages 5 – 15 (age as of 8/31/15). Six levels of play are offered based on age. The program runs for approximately 8 – 10 weeks beginning in late August. Whenever possible, teams are formed by geographical location (except for U-15). Separate boys and girls leagues are created when sufficient numbers exist in any age group. If numbers do not allow for separate leagues, the teams will be co-ed. Teams meet an average of 3 times per week for games and/or practices. Participants are required to wear shin guards and team colored soccer socks. The recreation department will provide each child with a team jersey which is his/hers to keep at season’s end. The registration fee is $33 per participant. All participants must be registered with Watauga County Parks and Recreation by 5:00 pm on Friday, August 14. Watauga County Parks and Recreation is looking for volunteer youth soccer coaches as well as team sponsors. Volunteer coaches must have soccer experience, work well with children and pass a background check. Businesses and individuals may sponsor a soccer team for $225 per team. Jr. Pioneer Youth Football: Youth Football Leagues for youth ages 9 – 10 and 11 – 13 (age as of 8/1/15) in Watauga County. These leagues are full contact football. Fundamentals and proper techniques are stress to insure safe playing environment. Shoulder pads, helmet with WHS decal, and game jersey are provided to each participant. Each participant must provide his/her own practice jersey, pants, pant pads, mouthpiece, athletic supporter, and shoes. The program runs for approximately 8 – 10 weeks. Teams meet an average of 4 times each week. Games begin as scrimmages and progress to full-contact, regulation games. Some travel is required as teams play other teams from surrounding counties. The registration fee is $65 per participant. All participants must be registered with Watauga County Parks and Recreation by 5:00 pm on Friday, August 7. Flag Football League: Youth Football League for youth ages 7 & 8 (age as of 8/1/15). This is an instructional league. Fundamentals and proper techniques are stress to insure safe playing environment. Watauga County Parks and Recreation will provide game jerseys and flag belts. Each participant must provide his/her own practice jersey, pants/shorts, colored mouthpiece, athletic supporter, and shoes. The program runs for approximately 8 – 10 weeks. Teams meet up to 4 times each week. Games begin as scrimmages and progress to regulation games. Some travel is required as teams play other teams from surrounding counties. The registration fee is $50 per participant. All participants must be registered with Watauga County Parks and Recreation by 5:00 pm on Friday, August 14. Flag Football Clinics: Watauga County Parks and Recreation, in conjunction with Watauga High School Football, is offering U-6 flag football clinics. This is an instructional league. Clinics will be instructed by Watauga High School football players. Participants will be divided into small groups for instruction and scrimmages each session. This program will meet for 5 consecutive Saturday mornings – August 29th, September 12th, 19th, 26th, and October 3rd. The clinics will be held at Watauga High School’s Soccer/Lower Field from 8:30 am – 10:00 am. Each participant will receive a t-shirt. The registration fee is $30 per participants. Jr. Pioneer Cheerleading: Youth Cheerleading is open to youth ages 5 – 14. The squads cheer for the U-13 Jr. Pioneer Football teams. Squads are limited to 15 members per team and will be assigned based on school district on a first come, first serve basis. Teams meet approximately 3 times each week for practices and/or games. Some travel is required as teams play other teams from surrounding counties. The registration fee is $60 per participant and includes a uniform shirt and poms. All participants must be registered with Watauga County Parks and Recreation by 5:00 pm on Friday, August 7.

Cleat Swap: Donate your gently used soccer cleats and equipment at Watauga County Parks and Recreation office so that we can help those in need.

Youth Lacrosse Clinics: NEW IN 2015!! Watauga County Parks and Recreation is excited to announce the addition of Youth Lacrosse. Youth lacrosse clinics are being offered to youth in grades 3 – 12. Clinics will be held on Sunday afternoons at WHS’s Lacrosse/Lower Field beginning August 23. Clinic times are between 2:00 pm and 6:15 pm, dependant on age. Both male and female lacrosse clinics are being offered. Participants must provide their own lacrosse stick and protective gear. The registration deadline is Friday, August 21. However, space is limited and registration will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis until the clinic is full. Click here to download a registration form and information sheet.

Adult Fall Softball: Watauga County Parks and Recreation offers 3 levels of men’s softball as well as co-ed softball in the fall. Team registration will be accepted through 5:00 pm on Monday, August 3. The registration fee is $350 per team. Each team is guaranteed 11 games. Games are played Monday – Friday evenings. Adult Co-ed Volleyball: Watauga County Parks and Recreation offers co-ed volleyball for residents 18 years of age and older. Two leagues are offered – Recreational and Competitive. Team registration will be accepted through Monday, September 14. The registration fee is $250 per team. Games are played Monday – Thursday evenings at Old Cove Creek Gym. Co-ed teams must have equal gender ratio or greater number of women on the court at all times. Click here to download a registration form and information sheet.

Youth Swim Lessons: Registration has begun for Fall Youth Swim Lessons. Various sessions will be offered in September and October for Levels I – VI. Click here for Swim Lessons registration form and class dates. Class size is limited. Registration will be taken on a first come, first serve basis until the class is full.

Parent/Infant and Parent/Toddler Swim Lessons will begin on Tuesday, August 18th. Parent/Infant Swim Lessons are offered to Infants (6 months to 18 months) and their parent(s). Parent/Toddler Swim Lessons are offered for Toddlers (18 months to 3 years) and their parent(s). Class size is limited to 10 participants per class. Watauga County Swim Complex is also offering Small Group Swim Lessons for Level 1 & Level 2. Small Group Lessons have limited class sizes of 4 participants in Level 1 and 5 participants in Level 2. Registration will be taken on a first come, first serve basis until the classes are full. Classes begin September 8, but classes are filling up quickly.
